Final Video

Digi pack design change

Throughout the period of our coursework a number of different thing have changed and altered our work which have been both internal (us deciding to change certain aspects) and eternal, however through all this all me and my group agree that the finished product is far better than what we had originally decided to put together.

However, one thing that has completely transformed past recognition from our original designs is my digi pack. With my flat plans I had drawn up a series of aspects that would fit in nicely with our original idea, however as our idea has moulded I have had to completely change my original plans to fit the criteria, I have now completed my digi pack which meets the needs of the specification perfectly. My digi pack has a close resemblance to our video with one shot being actual footage from our video. The new direction that my digi pack has taken moves away from the old “rave” idea and starts to actually listen to the lyrics more and represent what Nneka is trying to put forward. With shots of isolation and shots that clearly symbolise that our actor is thinking about what has happened and what his next actions are to be.
Here is my final digi pack separating them individually first to evaluate then the final piece at the end:

Front Cover:

This shot was taken during our filming session, i have decided to place this shot as my cover as it represents a number of different emotions, firstly through our song lyrics there is a clear indication of isolation and loneliness as his heartbreaks. this shot shows that perfectly as there is no one about and is completely isolated in the forest beyond. Another emotion that is represented within the song is anger, as his heart has been broken the mixture of anger and sadness is huge and the victim sways from one and another constantly. this shot also shows anger through his facial expressions.

The information that i have put onto the Front cover is simple however enough detail for the front cover as it shows the name of the song, artist and the featured artist also the information that the Cd includes the video that me and my group have worked hard on and have now completed.

The font i have used on this and all the other sections of my CD cover is from dafont.com and the font that i have selected is Charles S

Back Cover:

On this side of my Cd packaging i have chosen another picture that represents both sadness and anger which furthermore promots the video as this picture was taken from the actual footage of the video in the form of a single frame.

On this side of the Cd I have put all the necessary information that is needed, the list of songs that is on the Cd and that the song video is also included as an extra part.

Inside Cover:

For this side i have used this picture taken during filming to represent anger, the bottle has been thrown at the picture violently as our actor is now in the emotion of anger at what has happened and also shows the person who has made him so upset.

Cd cover page:

This final cover shows another emotion that is sadness, i have decided to make this last cover represent sadness as through the last 3 sides of my digi pack i have had two images that show both anger and sadness and the last inside cover showings purely anger.

My roles within the filimg and directing

Throughout the filming stage the group and I were all able to use our individual skills to create an extremely effective shoot.
At the beginning of the filming I was appointed cameraman and director, within this role I have to check a number of things:
 Focus
 Contrast
 Filter settings
 Position of camera
As we were on extremely uneven ground whether the tripod was flat
Where our actor was moving to

Once I had checked all of these different factors were correct we would begin to film, if the take was not as successful as I wanted I would give feed back to our actor on what was good and what was bad about the take. Once satisfied with the shot and the takes I would tell the actor and move onto the next scene.

Lighting, as a huge proportion of our film was filmed our side most of our lighting was natural and the need for artificial light which I am personally grateful for as the effect that artificial light produces is never as smooth or as affective as natural light.
However, there is a small part of the video where we are in the ‘den’, during the stage of the filming I took control and manipulated the natural light we had in the room to create the required levels by blocking same shadows out and letting more light in where needed, after then discussing the light with the current cameraman started shooting.

Idea change

Due to a number of external circumstances we were forced to change the idea of our video to meet our new needs. Despite this inconvenience we were able to take this and to create a better video throughout.
Where our original idea was to include a number of different people finding and having a rave, our new video (after re-listening to the song a number times) we decided that the best alternative theme to the song would to be to make the video much more abstract. As the song that we are creating a video for is already a re-mix we decided that this was another good reason to carry on with our new abstract idea.

Our new video, still filmed at my house, is now a lot more to do with the song itself “heartbeat” and the lyrics all to do with a heart being broken we have tried to include a sort of story line to our video where our actor gets a call and how he deals with the ‘heartbreak’.

Set
Our set hasn’t changed from where we were originally going to film however the use of the environment has changed completely. at my house we were always going to include and use the extraordinary woodland that I have around my land, originally we were going to use the woods as a trail towards the party however we have now decided to use the strange environment to further compliment the abstract and that it’s a strange place to be.
Other than the woodlands we will create a trail through the woods and out towards a ‘den’ where our actor has a picture of his girlfriend and how he goes through different stages of emotion from being angry and sad at what has happened.
We will use the new environment and the lyrics and the beats of the song to our advantage as the video goes along as we can make the video look very strange however still understand what is going on.

Cast/Actors
This was one of our major problems with our first idea, this is due to the fact that during the time we are allocated to film there were a number of different academic deadlines that students (our friends – actors) could not afford to miss.
Our original idea was to dependant on others to participate in our video, especially as we needed roughly 12 people for our rave video.
However, in our newly refurbished video idea we only have the need of one actor that is very flexible in when he can film for us; this means that the filming is very easy to carry out.

Animatic

This is our animatic video we have gathered a large number of different shots to try and give the best representation of what our video is going to be like. the general theme throughout the animatic is a "rave" scene where people are trying to find a party to go to.

Filming Techniques

Throughout our music video we will be adapting to a number of different techniques to get the desired shots that we will be using.

Firstly in order to get the glowing and streaking lights through our shots we will need to adapt the shutter speed and slow it right down so that the shot slows down and the light is kept in streaks for longer.
In order to do this we need to:
· Flip the switch on the bottom left of the camera to , this is the manual setting.
· Then click in the exposure button and go down on the setting that appear to the shutter speed
· Then lower the speed fraction from 1/120 to as low as will go to roughly 1/6.
· Then check that it is the correct speed by then looking through the camera and seeing if the slower speed has been achieved.

Saving battery
· In order to conserve the battery on the camera, the cameras will automatically want to turn off after a short while.
· To stop it turning off and resetting all of the settings that have been changed simply quickly record something by clicking the record button the very quickly stop recording.
· Also to make sure that the camera does not run out of battery and to ensure that the settings we have changed to not get reset, instead of turning it off I will flick the camera to lock mode which will sent the camera to sleep.

Story Board

For our story board we have drawn a series of pictures that will outline our overall aim of our video. The overall direction of our video is where there is a hidden party in the middle of know where however there has been a trail set don’t in paint directing the way, for the first section of the film will consist of the trail being set down and then people eventually finding the barn. As the climax of the song hits in will be where all of the people finally enter the barn where the UV paint is introduced and a rave is started.

Throughout our story board a number of images are out of place where we have added additional shots to improve the standard of our video however the layout.
